Apple Claimed On Samsung Design

US electronics giant Apple and Samsung Electronics each scored partial court victories in Germany, Their global war over rival tablet computers on Tuesday.

 
A regional appeals court in the western city of Duesseldorf upheld a ban on sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 computer for infringing on Apple’s design patent, and extended it from Germany to the rest of the European Union.

But it said that the redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 N was now sufficiently different to the Apple iPad to be acceptable under competition law.

The two technology giants are engaged in a legal battle involving dozens of cases worldwide as they struggle for leadership in the hugely lucrative smartphone and tablet computer market.

Apple had took legal action in April last year, accusing Samsung of slavishly copying its iPhone and iPad designs. Samsung has focused its own technology and design's.

The Duesseldorf regional court had slapped a temporary ban on Samsung previous model, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in November, saying it copied the iPad.

But changes Samsung made to the successor model for the German market to meet the court’s demands rendered the tablet computer sufficiently different, it said in February. Apple appealed this decision.

New from Moneual this year at the Consumer Electronics Show is an update to its award winning, state-of-the-art robot air purifier.

The Rydis H1004 II is not just an air purifier or an R2D2 impersonator (though it looks a bit like one). It’s a safety system for the elderly or anyone requiring special care. It features an injury detection wristband that can detect a physical injury to the user, monitor their condition, and call for help.

The robot purifier, which was a CES 2011 Innovation Award Honoree, can also sync to your smartphone, allowing users to control the robot and monitor the purity of the air in their homes. It is being offered first in South Korea, and should arrive in the U.S. later in the year.
You thought your Roomba was the epitome of automated home maintenance? Its random wandering approach to cleaning the dirt off your floors is downright prehistoric compared to this killbot which actively hunts down and cleans the air in your room.

The new Macbook Nano (as rumours call it) will have an OLED screen supplied by LG in Taiwan. Apple have paid LG $500M up front to work on monitor and display technology. The technology that LG owns means that touchscreens will remain without finger marks making them look ultra clean and crisp at all times. LG have created a new layer added to the manufacturing process that can eliminate oils and dirt from getting on to the screen. Impressive stuff and well needed!

A few years ago we saw a demonstration by a team at Fulton Innovation of a product called eCoupled. Using the principle of electromagnetic induction, by which an electrical charge can be stimulated in a wire coil by placing another one nearby, the crazy boffins were able to display wireless power transfer.

Despite being high voltage, they said, it was safe, efficient and could be applied to any surface. The demo room consisted of a kitchen without plugs, but full of lights that could be stuck anywhere and a frying pan that heated up just by sitting it on the counter. Put a phone on the same counter and it began charging. Clearly, this was the future.

Fulton are still working on wireless power, but it's a different company that's beat it to the shops, Powermat – and its products are expensive for something that replaces a 50p mains plug.

 

The good news is that the Wireless Power Consortium are going to be finalizing a standard for wireless power called Qi later this year, which should mean prices drop and manufacturers have the confidence to build the technology straight into devices, rather than requiring an adaptor.

The main feature of this guitar is the tuning system. The system is very simple to use. It features the Standard 2 volume and 2 tone knobs that all LPs have, but the tone knob for the neck pup is a push/pull knob. It is the MCK (Master Control Knob). When you pull it out it activates the self-tuning features. I'm not going to go into what the different LED displays on the MCK mean, but but selecting the tuning you want and just lightly strumming the strings it will tune to the selected tuning in about 10 seconds. The feature is not worth it if you only plan to go from Standard to dropped D, but if you are changing the tuning of every string it is very helpful. Especially if you want to change tunings Live and not have to have extra guitars just for a different tuning on one song.

Users can choose from seven factory presets for tunings, six of which are editable

Each tuning is selected by highlighting a specific string letter on the MCK.

Each tuning can be returned to "standard" tuning of A (440 Hz) by simply pulling up on the MCK knob, and strumming the strings lightly.

Out of the box, the guitar is calibrated to use a 0.10 gauge set of strings, and will tune up within a tolerance of one cent.
The calibration can be changed to heavier or lighter strings, and the tolerance can be changed as well. The greater tolerance the user is willing to bear, the faster the Robot Guitar will tune itself. On the fastest setting, Gibson claims that the guitar will tune up in about 15 seconds with a tolerance of 2.5 cents.[7] The onboard computer allows for each of the preset tunings to be overridden by user inputs, but the factory presets can be restored by resetting the computer.


According to company press releases, the system allows for 200 tunings before the battery has to be recharged. This is accomplished with a standard ¼” patch cable connected into a provided AC adaptor, and takes about 90 minutes for a full charge.

The system can be disabled and tuned just like a regular guitar. To do this, it requires the user to disengage the tuning button, making the adjustment manually, and re-engaging the system once the adjustment is complete.

and announced that the new car will

on the U.S. market: the 302-hp C350
and 201-hp C250, both including the
progressive technology featured
on the upcoming MY2012 C-Class sedan.

According to the manufacturer,
the V6 gasoline engine in the C350
features the efficient BlueDIRECT
injection and it is capable to
deliver 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of
torque, enough to hit 60 mph
(96 km/h) in just 5.9 seconds
and a top speed of 130 mph or
210 km/h (we might believe that
it is a mistake in this press
release...). The four-cylinder
gasoline engine in the C250 pushes
the car from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h)
in 7.1 seconds, while the top speed
is limited at 130 mph or 210 km/h
The C250 has an estimated fuel
consumption of 30 mpg highway
(24 mpg combined), while the C350
will deliver 22 mpg combined.

Regarding the design, at the front
the new car shares the same styling
as the latest C-Class sedan,
which means that we can see the
same prominent radiator grille
surround including the bumper,
new headlights with daytime running
LEDs as well as two chrome louvers.

The rear of the car is completely
new, it has new tail lights with
LED technology, a wide groove at
the top of the trunk lid as well
as a new air diffuser inspired by

The new Windows 8 operating system will be available in August for computer, tablet or smartphone makers to build into hardware, according to Microsoft.

Windows software designed to power the range of Internet-connected devices popular in modern lifestyles will be available to consumers as an update beginning in late October, the technology firm announced.

Microsoft reported that it has sold more than 630 million licenses of Windows 7, and that the software powers the majority of business desktop computers.

In 2009 Haverinen told New Scientist how he built a robot that could navigate by magnetic fields after reading about a lobster with a similar ability. Now he's taking advantage of the digital compasses found in modern smartphones to do the same for people.

The Earth's magnetic field once helped pioneering explorers discover exciting new lands and untold riches. Now, it could stop you getting lost at the shops, thanks to an upcoming smartphone app that uses magnetic fluctuations to map indoor locations, guiding you around places that GPS can't penetrate.

Compasses don't normally work inside buildings because metallic structures disturb the Earth's magnetic field, making it impossible to reliably find north, so IndoorAtlas takes a different approach by using these disturbances to create a unique map within each building. Map makers simply have to align their building's blueprint with a traditional map, then wander along designated paths with smartphone in hand to chart the magnetic variations.

Visitors to the building can then download the map to their own phone and navigate as normal, though users do have to travel a distance of 3-5 metres before the system locks on to their location. It might be worth the short wait though - unlike other proposed indoor navigations systems based on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, IndoorAtlas doesn't require any additional infrastructure, making it suitable for locations that suffer from radio interference while also reducing maintenance costs.
